He applied for and was granted full exemption from military service as a conscientious objector by Magistrate WE Nott at the Perth Police Court on 27 November 1967.Brendon told the magistrate, “that violence as a solution to a problem was futile and detrimental to the community and therefore immoral.” He said, “he was opposed to conscription to the army because it was an organisation which showed no respect for the individual personality and cultural upbringing of a person”.
