David Lin was a teacher from Perth, Western Australia but formerly from Sydney. He gained his Diploma of Education and began a teaching career. He made application for full exemption from military service under the National service Act 1964. The magistrate granted him full exemption from military service as a conscientious objector in a Perth court on 28 January 1971. He informed the court that “as a Christian participation in violence would be  against the teachings of Christ”.
