John Lacona of Victoria applied for and was granted full exemption from military duties as a conscientious objector. His was the first conscientious objector court hearing on 3 June 1965 at the Magistrates Court in Melbourne under the National Service Act 1964. John was one of the first six conscientious objection court hearings. He shared with Paul Waite, Douglas Smalley, John Sagggers, Howard Kennard and Richard Gubbings
