These are the criteria used to determine whether a person is placed on the Honour Roll of Australian Conscientious Objectors, Draft Resisters and Peacemakers.
A Conscientious Objector is a person who for conscience’s sake applied for exemption from combatant and non-combatant or combatant military service, and was granted such by the relevant tribunal or court, and this is corroborated by an authoritative source.
A Draft Resister or Conscientious Non-Complier is a person who for conscience’s sake peacefully refused to comply with the current compulsory military service legislation. Usually this involved multiple acts of non-compliance and these can be corroborated by an authoritative source.
A Peacemaker is a person who for conscience’s sake worked for peace and resisted war and war mongering in a peaceful manner over a sustained period, and this can be corroborated by an authoritative source.
Authoritative sources include The Peacemaker, media such as newspapers, private collections of correspondence, for example Vivienne Abraham Papers, published histories, National Archives of Australia, and personal interview.
