Further Information:
Roy Holland refused to register for compulsory military training on conscientious objector grounds. This was influenced by the strong socialist view held by Harry, his father. Harry. was convicted of failing to ensure Roy was registered. He was convicted and fined £100. He appealed to the Supreme Court and the fine was reduced to £10. Roy was summoned to court and was convicted and sentenced to imprisonment for two weeks. The Holland family left Australia for New Zealand; his father did not pay his fine nor spend time in jail for that offence.
