Robin Vollrath was from Perth in Western Australia. He was a Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) by religion. On the basis of his religious beliefs, he applied for exemption from combatant military duties as a conscientious objector under the National Service Act 1951. His hearing was at the Perth Magistrates Court on 10 October 1953 together with three other SDA (Till, Borodale and Bailey). All stated that their faith did not conflict with them serving in a non-combatant capacity. Magistrate Taylor granted the application.
