Further Information:
C or E Horn was from Queensland and was a member of the Jehovah’s Witness. Based on his religion it is likely he applied for total exemption from military duties as a conscientious objector under the National Service Act 1951 (NSA). It appears it was dismissed or he was granted exemption from combatant military duties only. It is unknown if he appealed the decision and if he did it was likely it was dismissed because he was sent to Holsworthy Military Prison in New South Wales. Horn would have been expected to serve 176 days there which was equal to the days prescribed for military training under the NSA. It was expected he would be released by the end of 1954. It was reported that conscientious objectors were well-treated at Holsworthy.
