Further Information:
Noel McClure was from New South Wales and a Christadelphian by religion. On the basis of his religious beliefs, he applied for total exemption from military duties as a conscientious objector under the National Service Act 1951 (NSA). Too much time had lapsed for him to appeal. He was summoned to court for his refusal to obey a call-up notice. He was fined £10 and committed to a prescribed authority under the NSA. He was incarcerated in Holsworthy Military Prison in New South Wales for at least 176 days, which was equal to the military training time under the NSA. It is likely Noel served longer than 176 days as he did not voluntarily surrender to the army. He was at Holsworthy in June during a visit by Vivienne Abraham from the Federal Pacifist Council of Australia to all conscientious objectors held there. It was reported that conscientious objected were well-treated at Holsworthy.
