Cyril Arblaster was a 19-year-old from Cessnock in New South Wales. He was a Motor Mechanic by trade. He was a Christian Israelite and was opposed to all forms of military service. Cyril applied for full exemption from military duties under the National Service Act 1951. On 28 April 1953, at the Court of Petty Sessions at Maitland, Magistrate CH Blackmore dismissed his application. Cyril appealed and the appeal was heard before Judge J O’Sullivan on 25 October 1953. The appeal was upheld.
