This was the highest fine the courts had imposed to date, late 1970. John refused to attend the mandatory medical examination and was arrested, convicted and fined, and jailed for 7 days on 30 March 1971. He was dragged out of court by several policeman. He claimed he was mistreated in jail. John participated inthe Monash University draft resisters sanctuary event, similar to that held at Melbourne University.
