Further Information:
David Hunt was from Como in New South Wales. He attached to his National Service Registration form a letter informing the Minister of his opposition to conscription, and presumably his reason why he refused to register for such. He stated that his honest beliefs subsequently would have had no significance to anyone but himself had he been rejected as medically unfit or his marble birth-date had not been selected. He chose a path of conscientious non-compliance. He had a court hearing at the Court of Petty Sessions, Sydney 24 January 1972. It possibly concerned a failure to register and/ or undergo a mandatory medical examination. It is known that he refused a call-up notice on 28 January 1972. He again refused a call-up notice on 16 February 1972. It is unknown what happened after that. The Government may have failed to prosecute or he was referred under reg. 32A to a court to determine if he had conscientious objector beliefs.
