Peter Clarke was from Victoria and he refused to register for the July 1969 intake under the National Service Act . He was convicted at the Oakleigh court and fined $40 plus $21.50 costs. He refused to pay the fine and was convicted and jailed for 8 days for that offence. He was a referral by the Government under reg.32A. His name appears on a list dated 17 August 1972. He was referred by the Minister under reg. 32. He was granted exemption as a conscientious objector. It was often employed as a means by which the government could neutralise troublesome young men in an attempt to minimise political dammage to it.
