Further Information:
Alexander Oliver was a Christadelphian. He applied for exemption from military service on the grounds that he had been called up and trained before his conversion to the Christadelphian sect. The court ruled that his case could not be dealt with as he had previously taken the oath of military service. Oliver then refused to obey a call-up notice. He was fined £20. His appeal was successful. The Army wanted to arrest him and place him in a military prison. The case was thrown out as “trivial” and Oliver was granted costs. Oliver again appealed the original judgement and was successful. The Army discharged him and there were no further prosecutions.
