John Symington was born at Fremantle WA on 18 January 1912. He was baptized into the Christadelphian Ecclesia on 8 November 1932. Apart from refusing to serve as either a combatant or noncombatant in the military forces, he also objected to working for the Civil Construction Corps, which was under civilian control but performed tasks for the military, such as building roads and airstrips.
