Peter Steer was a 20-year-old from South Australia. During 1965 applied for full exemption from military service. It was not granted by Magistrate McWright at a hearing on 10 December 1965. Peter was exempted from combatant duties only.. He appealed the decision, and the appeal was heard by her Honour Judge Mitchell at the Supreme Court of South Australia 13 January 1966. She granted Peter full exemption from military service as a conscientious objector.
