Christopher Haywood was a twenty-year-old from East Coburg a suburb of Melbourne. He applied for full exemption from military duties as a conscientious objector. The hearing was at the Magistrates Court in Melbourne on 13 June 1968 and was heard by Magistrate WM Murray. Christopher informed the magistrate that he objected to war in general and the Vietnam War in particular. He objected to killing in cold blood. He thought it was possible to be both a pacifist and a boxer. A supporter added that Christopher felt there was something wrong when medical science was trying to prolong life and at the same time other forms of science were being used to destroy life. Magistrate Murray granted Christopher full exemption from military duties.
