Grahan Edser was a Pattern Maker from Toowoomba, Queensland. He was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church. He applied for and was granted exemption from combatant duties, as was common for members of that church. His main argument was adherence to the sixth commandment Thou shalt not kill. The hearing was held 26 April 1968 before magistrate Peacock
