Noel Collett was a 20-year-old from Nambour in Queensland. He was a farm labourer and a member of the Exclusive Brethren. During August 1965 he applied for full exemption from military service which was not granted. He informed the court that his religious beliefs did not permit him to undertake military training. He appealed the decision which was dismissed by Judge Andrews of the District Court on 30 November 1965. Noel made a second application for full exemption from military service. Magistrate EN Loane ruled that the court had no jurisdiction to hear a second application. It is unknown if Noel made a further appeal.
