John Christie was described in Woroni, the newspaper of the Australian National University as a hard hitting, well-argued conscientious objector. The camp was sponsored by the Newman Society, Student Christian Movement and the Wesley Foundation. John was on of three speakers in the conscription section of the programme. It is not confirmed from any other source that he was a  conscientious objector under the National Service Act, other than the description of him by the reporter.
