Laurie Cameron was a 20-year-old from Surrey Hills a suburb of Melbourne. He was an Electro Plater by trade. He applied for and was granted full exemption from military service on 27July 1965. He informed the court that although he was an agnostic, he believed life is sacred. Warfare is not a solution. In answer to a question, he stated he would refuse to work on war contracts if he was asked to do this.
