Gordon Clare was a 21-year-old Christadelphian from Brisbane, QLD. He applied for a conditional exemption as a conscientious objector to military service. This was refused and he was ordered to enlist for military service. When he refused to enlist, he appeared again in court in March 1943 and was sentenced to three months in prison, which he served. Before his sentence expired, he was again tendered the oath, which he refused to take. The day after his release, he appeared in court on the same charge of refusing to enlist. His case was adjourned for six weeks pending an appeal.
