William Shackleton was a Jehovah’s Witness. When he appealed court decision ordered him to perform noncombatant duties, Justice Dwyer, changed this to an order to enrol for the Civil Construction Corps (CCC), which some also objected to as military work under civilian control. It is unknown if Shackleton attempted another appeal, but there is no court record of him doing so in 1943.
