Further Information:

Michael Jones was from Belmore in New South Wales. He was a student at Sydney University. He refused to register for national service for the July 1967 intake.  He informed the Minister of his non-compliance with the National Service Act 1964. He was convicted on 9 December 1968 for the offence and fined plus costs or 29 days imprisonment in lieu of non-payment. Michael refused to pay the fine. A committal warrant for his arrest for the non-payment was issued. He refused to attend the mandatory medical examination and later refused to comply with a call-up notice. Michael was arrested on 18 September 1970. He was remanded 21 September 1970 to a hearing before Magistrate SM Anable. The magistrate adjourned the hearing until 1 October 1970. At that hearing the magistrate released Michael on bail who was required to report to the police daily. On 5 January 1971 Magistrate Anable granted Michael full exemption from military duties as a conscientious objector The prosecution for failing to obey a call-up notice was dismissed against him on 20 January 1971 as he was no longer liable for national service.
