Further Information:
Peter Frederick Brown was a 20-year-old railway worker from Camberwell in Victoria. He was a member of the Church of England and a pacifist. He applied for exemption from combatant duties and indicated to the magistrate he was prepared to work as a medical orderly. It was remarked at the court hearing 15 June 1967 that pacifism is not held by most Anglicans. Fred Brown the faither of Peter told the hearing he had been a stretcher bearer in WW1. However, he had second thoughts about the wisdom of enlisting. Fred insisted that he sat with his son at the bench. Magistrate Walsh had to ask him to be removed. The magistrate granted Peter’s application.
