Jamie Arthur was a Trainee Linesman from Coollbellup in Western Australia. He had been brought up as Quaker in England but had not practiced as such since arriving in Australia during 1958. He told the magistrate during the hearing in the Fremantle Police Court on 12 September 1966, that he was prepared, but not happy, to serve in a non-combatant unit. He was granted exemption from combatant military duties.
